Some Flyers and Posters I did...

I did these for bands back in Austin between '99 - '04. Some I still like and some I look at and think "what the hell was I thinking?!"

Some of these shows were so amazing too!

This weekend....

Was AWESOME! I went to see Green Day at SBC Park (Profiteering bastards!) with Jimmy Eat World and Flogging Molly...it was an amazing show. Second best I’ve ever attended next to the Dynamite Boy goodbye show.

At the end of the show there was a huge fireworks show and there was no fog so it was fantastic!

But before the show on Saturday my friends Maya, Jayme, Silvia and I went to the Love Parade. It was basically an all day outdoor rave. It was really cool. Lots of people dressed up all funky and lots of naked people. Damn good times. Oh, and the best part is that it happened on the steps of city hall and the civic center.

Some of my design work.

The last few years I lived in Austin I was pretty heavily involved in the music scene. And aside from loving the music and the people, I loved being involved with some of the greatest bands to ever come out of Austin by creating logos, t-shirts designs, CD layouts, tour posters and other random stuff. Here is a sample of some of the junk I did. There are also several designs for Establishment Clothing Company in there, the clothing\record label I helped Tony get off the ground (even though he doesn’t return my emails or calls now)

Seeing stars...

A shirt design I did for a friend’s band (Riddlin’ Kids) that is now no longer...sad really. I also may get this tattooed on the back of my neck...but different colors. We'll see.

Three things that were said to me this weekend:

  • Old Asian lady working at 7 Eleven: “You are really fat! You should drink Diet Coke.”
  • 9 year old daughter of my bosses boss: “I love you but I can’t marry you because you have a tattoo with words on it.”
  • Twenty-something co-worker at BBQ: “Yes, Binky is a wonderful guy but I would never date him until he gets his shit together. Binky! Get your shit together!”

Also, another question…Here is the setup: The 9 year old and her friend were climbing on me all day and the friend put her hand on my belly and said “Your belly button is big!” and the friend said “I want to see!” I kept telling them no and began to feel very uncomfortable with all this so I told them to go play in the yard. They did then about 5 minutes later they flanked me from both sides and pulled my shirt up. Ok, so wow did I feel embarrassed and a whole lot odd and I told them “NO! Not acceptable. That is very rude!” The 9 year old says “Oh man, your belly looks cool! I want to see it again.”

So my question is this: At what point to girls stop chasing you trying to see your belly and think it looks “cool” and begin being disgusted by it and run from me when I try to talk to them?

Oh man…good times!

Oh the Good Times...

This is one of my favorite pics ever. My friend Dave from Cruiserweight and I at a Halloween party Ben, Big Black, and I threw a few years ago.

Damn those were good times.

New Rubbers

New tires are the bomb! My car actually handles like a real sports car now. I can really take the corners with the new tires. Before, with the factory kicks, my car would slide and squeal around almost all corners. Now, it sticks like glue.

It's amazing what an $800 upgrade can do to performance.

Starting the 3-day weekend off right - NOT!

This morning, I was heading into the office and I was actually going to be there before 9, which is a very rare occurrence for me. I was feeling good. I was no longer tired from my trip and I was rocking to some good music with the top down, the weather was perfect!

I was about half way to the office on 280 just past the national cemetery where there is a big long bend in the road. I was noticing how the flag was flying at half mast, which it is doing often these days with the war, and I was wondering if it was because of the terrible catastrophe in the gulf. When all of a sudden my normal slight steer to the left was becoming more and more of a hard turn of the wheel and still I was drifting into the BMW to my right.

“Odd”, I thought to myself. I sure was having to turn the wheel hard. I was really starting to get close to the BMW, and mind you, we were doing about 100MPH at this time. So I let off the gas and applied slight pressure to the brake. My car started shaking violently. In my rear view mirror there was a wall of cars closing in quickly. Surprisingly, I didn’t panic. I reached up and turned on the emergency signals and slipped into an opening between a semi and a van.

By now a white cloud of smoke was billowing from under my car. I finally made it to the site of the road and wondered to the front right of my car. The front passenger side tire hade completely blown out the sidewall. It was crazy. This is when I realized the gravity of the situation and started to freak a little.

And as luck would have it, I paid for a special road side assistance plan through my financer, something like $100, and of course I didn’t have the card with me. SO I dug out the spare and got down in the dirt and started changing the tire. Just as I got the tire off the Bay Area Highway Safety Patrol (a free roadside assistance program) pulls up behind me and the guy asked if I needed help. I told him no thanks but he stayed to make sure everything went OK and that I got on my way alright. It was cool of him.

So now I have to go add to my debt incurred on my trip (NOT COMPLAINING!!) and spent $800 on a set of new tires. Yay for sports cars!
