The Real McKenzies & Angel City Outcasts - Thee Parkside

Last night (8.21.07) Angel City Outcasts and The Real McKenzies played at Thee Parkside. Man, what an awesome show! Everyone was so into it, ACO rocked the socks off and we talked about the Born to Losers and how rad their tour together was. They were great.

Then the Real McKenzies played. It was probably the most fun I have had at a show in a long time. They were so good and spot on and so friendly and fun. I don't think the show could have been any better. At one point the singer and the second guitarist picked up the lead guitarists amp and carried it into the crowd while he was rocking a solo, it was awesome!

Thee Parkside has become my new favorite place in town. It is easy to park, the people are awesome, the drinks are cheap, and the food is amazing.

Here are some videos I took from the show with my camera, poor video quality ok audio quality. And some pictures afterwards. There are some I think are super cool of the kids moshing with a long exposure.

Pictures, Enjoy!

GenCon, Flying Things and Lost Keys

This past week I was in Indianapolis Indiana for one of the biggest nerd gatherings (and I say that lovingly) of the year, GenCon!

It was a lot of fun, tiring working all day but lots of fun. Our game was down a lot so that made it frustrating for me, but that’s what happens when you use the server being used for stress testing for live demos.

I hung out with the Flying Lab team and they are great people. I have sorta known Troy, their Director of Community Relations for a while, and I met Theresa, their PR coordinator last con, but this was the first time I really talked to her and the rest of the team (Lindsey, Matt and Danicia) and they are all great. I also reunited with an old friend from the UO days…I knew her when she was in High School. Now Jodi is a technical artist working at Flying Lab as well. It was awesome getting to hang out with her again and good to see she got into the industry.

Um..I was fascinated by the airplane this trip. Lots of pictures of the plane and clouds and I also have some cool (or I think cool) videos of takeoffs and landings.

The travel was quite horrific this trip. I’m not going to go into it as it is far to long a tale to tale but here is the gist.

  • Delayed flight
  • Get on plane
  • Get off plane due to the fact I am going to miss my connection in Chicago
  • New flight 4 hours later
  • Land in Kansas City – flight delayed
  • Finally take off
  • Land in Indy 4 hours later than I should have
  • The way home I cant check in online due to them screwing something up
  • Check in at airport, group C, great. Lady moves me to A. Awesome
  • Flight delayed.
  • Land in Chicago
  • Ask if I can change groups, lady says they can’t do that.
  • Different lady asks me if I fit in the seats, changes my grouping to pre-board
  • Flight is delayed
  • Meet two nice girls and have good talks
  • Get bags and take shuttle to car…wait, why is my bag open and where are my keys and other items?
  • Take shuttle back to terminal
  • Ask the lady what’s up? She blames TSA, I get mad and tell her instead of placing blame ask the people on the plane if my keys are in the belly or on the conveyer.
  • She cries
  • I call people to come get me because BART has stopped because it is 1AM.
  • No one answers
  • Take $30 shuttle to office because I cant get in my house
  • Remember I had a premonition to unlock the window on my house
  • Wait two hours for MUNI
  • Get home and break in
  • Sleep…sweet, sweet sleep.
  • Ride scooter to work
  • Take BART to Oakland
  • Take AIR Bart to airport
  • Take economy shuttle to lot
  • Pay $90 parking fee
  • Drive home
  • Take MUNI bake to office
  • Ride scooter home.

I hate Southwest with all my heart...and hate is a strong word.

I guess that wasn’t so short after all, sorry.

I did see Superbad. Twice! That movie is so funny, I laughed so hard both times. I plan on seeing it a few more times. It feels good to laugh that hard. Do yourself a favor and go see it….if you have a soul you will go see it.

Yeah, here are the pics, enjoy.

I'll be in Austin in a couple of weeks for AGDC! HOME SWEET HOME!!!!!

Vegas Baby! A tale of Geeks, Beauties, and Bodyguards

This past week (8/2/07 - 8/5/07) I was in Las Vegas for the the annual SOE Fan Faire to show off Gods & Heroes: Rome Rising.

It was such a blast! I got there and went to do setup and ended up handing out the raffle tickets to all 1500 people. By the end of the day my voice was shot.

That night a few friends and I went to the Gold Coast and I was up about $300. Woo me!

The next day was the beginning of the event. It was a great time. A lot of interest in G&H and a lot of cool people and good conversations. It was a geek paradise, and I mean that in a good way. There were a lot of discussion panels and live events and just good times.

Friday night there was a pool party and my friend Lauren (LOVE HER!) was hired to model as one of the characters as well as this other girl, Zaneta, she was also lovely with a nice polish accent.

Things were great! Open bar, bad karaoke, good people, and the beautiful Lauren and Zaneta.

I was triple fisting Vodka and Redbulls (sorry mom) and I was on top of the world. Well, I won't go into too many details here but there was a guy being creepy and touching Zaneta and bothering Lauren. I asked him to step off and he didn't and he followed us to the change room and he tried to get in to "watch them". Anyone who knows me knows I don't put up people harassing girls so I had to tell him a few times to step off and just had to take care of the situation. yeah...um...yikes for him!

Lauren invited me to go hang out with her and meet up with the wonderful and lovely Natalie at a burlesque club called Forty Deuce.

As we were walking through the Mandalay Bay I was all "VIP COMING THROUGH" and escorting Lauren through the crowd, it was awesome. People were all like "Who is that" HAHAHA.

We walked right up and in and paid no cover and got to go to the VIP section, it was awesome! I had so much fun!

As we were leaving I caught up with Natalie and we gave her the VIP COMING THROUGH treatment to her car.

Dave and I got in a cab to go back to the hotel and the next thing I know we are at a gentleman's establishment. This was my first and last time going. I've never wanted to go before (I am frustrated enough as it is) and it was really expensive and i just feel it is a little degrading and the girls looked so bored and so out of it...I just...um...yeah.

That night was hell...32 redbull and vodkas do not a good time make. I horked all over the bed and was in bad shape the next day but I manned up and worked the shift.

I went to Caesars Palace for dinner which was cool. Then I came home.

As usual, pictures for your viewing pleasure!

Yeah...good times. I came home about $300 in the hole.
